Every Disaster Leaves a Second Wave.
You Can Stop It.

The people who show up after the storm - the volunteers, caseworkers, and recovery coordinators - are doing the most important trauma recovery work no one is funding. Your donation trains them to do it right.

The Storm Doesn’t End When the Storm Ends

When a hurricane makes landfall, the world watches.
Cameras roll.
Relief organizations deploy.

For a few weeks, maybe a month, the attention holds.

Then the world moves on.

The survivors don’t.

A landmark 2024 Stanford University study found that the hidden death toll from major disasters continues for nearly 15 years after impact.

Suicide rates rise.
Infant mortality climbs.
Domestic abuse spikes.

These are not random tragedies - they are the predictable, preventable second wave of every disaster, rolling through communities whose trauma was never treated.

Not because no one cared.

Because the people who showed up to help - the dedicated, compassionate frontline workers who deployed to serve survivors - were never trained to recognize trauma when they saw it. They offered resources a person in crisis couldn’t yet receive. They pushed when a survivor needed stillness. They carried their own unprocessed trauma into the room and didn’t know it was affecting the people they were trying to help.

This is the training gap. And it is costing lives.

We Train the Helpers.
The Helpers Reach the Survivors.

The Chrysalis Alliance has built the first national certification standard for trauma recovery for disaster service providers - the Trauma Recovery Certification Program® (TRCP).

TRCP gives frontline workers a clear, repeatable framework for real-time mental, emotional, and spiritual trauma recovery for themselves and the people they serve:

  • how to recognize trauma activation

  • how to respond in the moment

  • how to meet a survivor exactly where they are

  • and how to protect their own wellbeing in the process.

This is not therapy. And it's not a wellness seminar.

TRCP is a professional certification - field-tested, ethics-grounded, and aligned with FEMA national disaster management standards and NVOAD emotional and spiritual care guidelines.

When a helper is trained, everything changes:

  • They recognize when a survivor is too activated to receive the help being offered — and they know how to create the safety that makes help possible
  • They identify the signs of secondary trauma in themselves before it compounds the harm they came to prevent
  • They stay in the field longer, burn out less, and serve more people more effectively over time
  • Every survivor they reach is less likely to become part of the 15-year hidden death toll

One trained practitioner. One hundred survivors per year. Fifteen fewer years of silent dying.

Many of the organizations that most need this training are the least resourced to pay for it - rural long-term recovery groups, faith-based relief organizations, grassroots community nonprofits. These are the groups doing the hardest work in the most under-served communities. They show up every time. They stay long after the national organizations have packed up and gone home.

They cannot always afford professional certification programs. That’s where you come in.

Every dollar you donate to The Chrysalis Alliance funds the scholarship track of the TRCP - making it possible for frontline workers at under-resourced organizations to receive full trauma recovery certification at no cost to them or their organization.

  • 100 = One Tool in the Field
Funds one module of training - one evidence-based tool in the hands of a frontline worker who is already deployed, already serving survivors, and already carrying more than they should carry alone

  • 250 = One Month of Training
Covers one month of the 16-week TRCP curriculum for one scholarship recipient - a volunteer, chaplain, or caseworker who will put every lesson to work in the field

  • 1,000 = One Certified Practitioner
Fully funds the TRCP scholarship for one frontline worker, covering curriculum access, live training sessions, certification processing, and 12 months of post-certification support.
One practitioner. One hundred survivors reached annually for every year they remain in the field.

  • 5,000 = A Practitioner + Their Team
Funds one certified practitioner and contributes to developing a Train the Trainer program, so that practitioner can train their team.

  • 10,000 = A Cohort
Sponsors a full organizational cohort certification, bringing TRCP training to an entire team of frontline workers at an under-resources disaster recovery organization.
One gift. Potentially thousands of survivors reached.

Our organization participated in this program after seeing how unrecognized trauma- response activation can create real setbacks in relationship management. We’ve gained daily validation and confidence in acknowledging trauma responses and improving because of that awareness. We recommend this program to any disaster-response professional working in response and/or recovery who wants to broaden their ability to support partners and survivors impacted by disaster - exponentially.

After deployments, our organization saw how hard it can be to come home and release the trauma absorbed in the field - especially as disasters grow larger and the health impact accumulates. The program gave our team practical regulation tools we now use consistently, helping us slow down, refocus, and recover faster. We’ve developed clearer boundaries & quicker stabilization. We recommend this program to any disaster- response professional who works with survivors - or is a survivor—who wants to manage triggers quickly & stay present with those they serve.

This Is Not Just About One Disaster

The Los Angeles Fires. Hurricane Helene. The floods, the tornadoes, the fires that don’t make the national news but devastate communities just the same. Natural disasters are increasing. The window to treat trauma - before it calcifies into chronic illness, addiction, suicide - is 18 months. It closes fast.

The organizations that serve survivors during that window are already out there. They are already in the communities. They already have the trust.

They just need the training.

Your donation does not send help somewhere far away. It ensures that the help already there is equipped to actually help.

The Chrysalis Alliance is building the national standard - the infrastructure that means every disaster, every deployment, every frontline worker and every survivor they reach is part of a system that knows what it’s doing. We are at the beginning of that.

This is exactly the moment when your support matters most.

There Will Be Another Disaster

There always is.

And in the weeks and months and years that follow, there will be helpers - volunteers, chaplains, caseworkers, pastors, recovery coordinators - who will show up with everything they have.

What they have will be enough if they are trained.

Give today.
Train a helper.
